Make EOFY Count: Build Your Rack It Storage System for the Workshop

Smart Rack It storage for hardworking tradies starts with two things: a 1000KG bay rated for heavy loads, and PRO storage units that organise tools and consumables. EOFY is when the maths works hardest in the tradie's favour, with storage potentially being eligible for write off.
Whether you're outfitting a bare wall, replacing shelving that's bowing under load, or extending Rack It shelving you already own, the system scales by bay, layer and accessory. An integrated Rack It 1000KG and PRO configuration is the smart way forward.
Tools & Materials: What You'll Need
You don’t need much. That’s the whole point of the Rack It system.
- Tape measure or laser distance measure – Measure the wall length, space depth, ceiling height, and any door swings before you start. Essentially, you need to figure out the usable space for your storage.
- Rack It 1000KG Starter Kit or add-on bays. 1000KG is the structural backbone of your smart storage. Each shelf rated up to 1,000kg evenly distributed, maximum of 4 shelves per bay.
- Rack It PRO storage units. Cabinets, Drawers or Castors, layer them in as workflow demands.
- Rubber mallet is the only assembly tool needed for 1000KG. Some power tools will likely be needed for PRO units assembly.
- Your Rack It Planner design code. If you are following a custom configuration, make sure you can easily load up the design and reference as you build.
- Securing your shelving to the wall or floor is recommended for added stability, especially with heavy loads. Fixings are not included, so you’ll need to source suitable options based on your surface type (e.g. brick, concrete, or plasterboard).
Why EOFY Is the Smartest Time to Set Up Your Rack It Storage
The timing is the main consideration. For eligible Australian small businesses, instant asset write-off provisions can change a workshop storage spend from a depreciating fixed asset into a same-year deduction. Though be sure to confirm current thresholds with your accountant, since the rules change. The principle is straightforward: tax-time is when storage is no longer a chore and starts being a business decision and asset, in the truest sense of the word.
The Rack It system pairs neatly with that timing because it is scalable. If you get a 1000KG Starter Kit and the PRO units you need now, and the same Uprights, Beams, and pattern will accept additions in 18 months when the work grows. This is modular spending reflecting the system’s design. Storage is now also an investment as durability means years and years of use that withstand the heaviest of loads. Given Rack It’s availability at Bunnings, you can also kit out your system at any point as your needs evolve.
Where Are You Starting From?
Most tradies fall into one of three camps when they’re rethinking storage. The 1000KG and PRO ranges handle all three. What changes is how you stage the rollout.
Starting from scratch
Empty shed or bare wall equals a new storage fit-out. Start with a 1000KG Starter Kit anchored to the longest wall, to get the most storage. Straight from the box, you get three shelves with a kit*, each rated up to 1,000kg evenly distributed. Once the workflow shakes out and you know which tools belong where, the fun part starts. Add bays at varying heights, add a Pegboard above a bench bay, then PRO units below the fixed bench.
Switching from inadequate or mismatched shelving
Most workshops would have inherited some shelves that could be bowing in the middle, mismatched or even falling apart. Add random sized plastic crates balanced on top and other disorganised storage – not exactly an inspiring or functional workspace. The Rack It 1000KG range holds up to 1,000kg per shelf evenly distributed and pairs with Rack It PRO. That engineering matters when you’ve actually got heavy loads to store now — and more coming. Replace the failing shelving with a 1000KG bay or two, then layer in accessories from the same range or lockable storage from PRO.
